Darn you, Punxsutawney Phil. Darn you.

2 02 2008

From the Houston Chronicle:

“Brace yourself for more wintry weather.  Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow Saturday, leading the groundhog to forecast six more weeks of winter.

The rodent was pulled from his stump by members of the Punxsatawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle, top-hat-and-tuxedo-wearing businessmen who carry out the tradition.”

However, General Beauregard Lee (another infamous groundhog in Lilburn, Georgia), evidently did NOT see his shadow this morning, forecasting an early spring.

What are we to do?

(Is anyone else creeped out by the fact that there’s a groundhog inner circle?)

back on track

21 01 2008

Just a quick announcement that we’re on for this coming Thursday Night (Jan 24).  There isn’t a basketball game, so let’s meet at the church as usual.  See you then.

everything is spiritual

12 12 2007

Thursday Night (Dec 20 — the first day of Christmas break) at 7 pm, we’ll be watching everything is spiritual by Rob Bell.   We’ll pull some couches out, make some popcorn, and kick back to watch and hear some pretty cool stuff.

UPDATE: the other day we talked about changing this to another night…but it’s going to have to remain on the original night.

any volunteers?

12 12 2007

I was asked if high school students could do the reading and lighting of the Advent wreathe at the beginning of the service this Sunday (Dec 16).  If you’re interested, let me know (it’s nothing difficult…each reading is only a sentence or two).

ABC invites PCC

3 12 2007

Antioch Bible Church is having it’s high school retreat Dec. 7-9th.  They are inviting students from PCC to worship with them on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Mountain Springs Lodge.  The evening worship will start at 7:30 pm, and you are welcome to come for fellowship, music, and teaching.

Doug and Tammy Barga will be at PCC at 7 pm to take you over to Mountain Springs Lodge.  If you have any questions, call Tammy Barga sometime this week.

learning the Story

12 10 2007

I’ve added a new page (see the menu bar above) called Story.  This is a summary-in-progress of what we are currently going through in the Sunday School class, and each week I’ll add to it until we’ve got the entire thing chronicled.  This way it will be in a place and form that we can refer back to and be reminded of what it is we are apart of and better understand how we can go about doing exactly what it is we are called to do.

for next Monday…

11 10 2007

I think we’ll go ahead and repeat the Question/Doubt Night theme we had at our last gathering as there are still a handful of questions that remained untouched.  Also, if you have any more questions or thoughts about what we talked about last week (or completely new ones), bring those with you and we can try to deal with that some more as well.

As always, try to be on time so we can have as much time as possible to focus on discussion and conversation.

Trek to Spider Meadows

7 10 2007

This Saturday (Oct 13) we will be taking a hike into Spider Meadows, which should look pretty cool this late in the fall (or early in the winter, depending on how you see it).  We will be leaving the church at 7:00 a.m. in order to get to the trailhead and actually allow ourselves some time to explore the meadow, rather than just get up there and have to start heading back.  Be sure to dress warmly (and with layers, so if you get hot you can shed…if you get cool, you can add)…and bring along a rain jacket or poncho in case it starts to rain.  Once we get back we’re going to have some dinner (pizza) and hang out and watch a movie.

If you want to go on this trip, let me know by this Wednesday that you’re coming so we can plan for transportation, dinner, etc.  Get ahold of me if you have any questions.
