color and light

14 11 2007

For this next Monday Night, we’ll be making stained glass windows of ourselves…sort of.  So be thinking about a couple symbols or images that you feel depict you or your place in God’s Story, and then come with those.  Don’t think too hard about this, just see what comes naturally to the surface when you think about what makes you come alive or what you’re interested in being apart of.

To help give the effect of the lines and borders and colors of an actual window (we’ll be using markers and colored pencils), maybe spend some time searching around the internet and looking at different examples.  Pieces of glass can’t be too large, or they’ll break…so notice how they are broken up with the lines and veins of lead.

Also, I mentioned that this would have to be a portrait of some type, meaning that there is an image of yourself in the window.  For this aspect, it might help to look at some icons and use those as templates.  Check out these and those for inspiration (FYI: the Grunewald Guild offers classes in both stained glass window making and iconography).  Print off any you want to bring with you and work from, and I’ll have some as well so you can have something to look at for help or ideas.
